Guinea-Bissau Down Super Eagles 3-0 in AFCON Qualifier Upset
Guinea-Bissau condemned Super Eagles to a 3-0 defeat in their Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifier in Bissau.
Before the match
Nigeria sit second in this Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying group. Level with leaders Guinea-Bissau on points, too. The group has four teams, Guinea-Bissau, Madagascar and Tanzania alongside Nigeria, and it runs six matchdays, home and away. Nigeria’s record so far reads 1W 0D 0L in 1 of 6 matchdays, 3 points. Guinea-Bissau lead on goal difference alone, +2 to +1. Madagascar and Tanzania are both on zero after matchday 1. Tight group. Éric Sékou Chelle has managed the Super Eagles since Wednesday 1 January 2025, and Bissau is his next away test.
Guinea-Bissau’s form ahead of this one no dey in our data feed. I no sabi how they dey trend coming into matchday 2. No sequence, no run, nothing on that side. What we sabi be the table, and that puts them top, level with Nigeria on points but ahead on goal difference.
A Nigeria win moves them top of the group. A loss opens it up for Madagascar and Tanzania too, both still chasing their first points. Kick off is Tuesday 29 September 2026, 17:00 Lagos time, from Guinea-Bissau soil. Super Eagles fans back home go dey glued to that table update as soon as the final whistle blow.
After the match
Guinea-Bissau beat Nigeria 3-0 at the Estádio 24 de Setembro, Bissau, on Tuesday 29 September 2026, in an Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifiers matchday 2 fixture. The Super Eagles never recovered from that first-half sucker punch.
Franculino Gluda Dju put the Djurtus ahead in the 15th minute, and Guinea-Bissau carried a 1-0 lead into the break. That opener set the tone early, and Super Eagles dey chase the game from there.
Mama Baldé doubled the home side’s lead in the 66th minute, and Alvaro Djalo Dias Fernandes added a third deep into stoppage time, in the 90+5th minute. Super Eagles couldn’t find an answer, and the game slip away for real.
This one na loss for Super Eagles, plain and simple. I no go lie, conceding three goals away from home go raise questions before the next qualifier.
